Thyratalbrücke, Autobahnbrücke in Deutschland
The Thyratalbrücke is a road bridge spanning the Thyra valley near Berga with a steel and concrete girder structure. It connects two sections of the A38 highway and passes over a railway line and local road below.
Built between 2002 and 2005 at a cost of about 40 million euros, the bridge improved regional transport connections by replacing older routes with a direct crossing over the valley.
The bridge is designed for vehicle traffic only with no pedestrian walkways, so walkers must find alternate routes. From nearby roads and trails, you can view it from below or from the surrounding hillsides.
The bridge features distinctive Y-shaped piers that help maintain stability under heavy loads and braking forces. With thirteen openings and a main span of roughly 90 meters, it uses an unusual structural system for its size.
