Goldene Aue VG

The Goldene Aue is an administrative district in Sachsen-Anhalt that covers a rolling, agricultural landscape encompassing five municipalities. The area sits in the Helme River valley and features small villages scattered among open fields that spread across gentle hills.

The district was formed in 2010 through the merger of several former administrative communities to streamline governance. The individual municipalities have much older roots, with origins tracing back to medieval times.

The area takes its name from the golden hue of the grain fields in autumn, a connection that residents maintain with the agricultural roots of their region. This heritage shapes how the landscape looks and how people relate to their surroundings today.

The region connects well to the highway network and has train links to larger neighboring cities. Keep in mind this is a rural area where services are spread across several villages, so having a car is helpful.

Wallhausen features the remains of an early medieval fortress whose ruins are still visible today and transport visitors back into distant history. These archaeological remains offer insights into the site's importance during the time of Saxon kings.
