Schlosskirche Beuggen

Schlosskirche Beuggen is a baroque church in Rheinfelden with richly decorated interiors and elaborate ceiling paintings. The high altar displays a depiction of Saint Michael fighting against the devil.

The original church dates to 1218 and was destroyed in 1678 by French troops under Marshal François de Créquy. It was later rebuilt in 1752 in baroque style.

The church houses valuable ceiling frescoes from the mid-18th century, partly attributed to the Konstanz artist Franz Ludwig Hermann. Visitors can still admire the artistic details in their original form today.

The church is regularly open for religious services, concerts, and prayer meetings of the Beuggen Community. Visitors should check current opening times in advance, as these vary depending on events.

The church stands on an unusual cellar foundation, suggesting the structure was originally intended for non-religious purposes. This architectural quirk makes the site's history even more intriguing.
