Natatorium Heveney, Swimming center in Witten, Germany.
The Natatorium Heveney is a swimming center with multiple indoor pools and eleven different sauna areas. Outside, there is a large steel pool with water features as well as specialized areas like a brine pool and bubble loungers overlooking Kemnader lake.
The center opened in 1986 and was designed by Stuttgart architects, making it one of Germany's first leisure pools of this type. The construction marked a shift in how municipalities wanted to modernize their swimming facilities.
The red granite structure called Hevener Kegel sits heated by warm air rising from within and references the local mining past. This design choice shows how the architects wanted to connect the facility to its regional heritage.
The center is easily reached by public transport and sits near the A43 motorway. Visitors should allow time to explore the different water areas since there are several zones with different purposes.
The outdoor area features a 100-meter slide that stands out as one of the facility's most striking features. There are also bubble pools and current channels that add special water experiences to the visit.
