Sender Geyer is a concrete transmission tower rising approximately 185 meters above the town in the Ore Mountains region. It functions as a major hub for broadcasting radio and television signals across Saxony and neighboring areas.
The tower was built by Deutsche Post of the German Democratic Republic between 1972 and 1973, representing an important expansion of broadcasting infrastructure in the region. The steel framework was completed and in place before antenna systems were added.
The tower strengthens media connectivity throughout Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, and Bohemia, enabling the transmission of numerous radio and television programs.
The tower sits at an elevation of about 738 meters, making it visible from many directions across the surrounding landscape. Its location ensures reliable coverage for broadcasting and mobile signals over a large area.
The tower's steel framework was engineered using specialized techniques to secure it to the concrete shaft. Assembly of the steel structure was finished on August 31, 1973, after which antenna installation got underway.
