Tiergarten Straubing

Tiergarten Straubing is a facility housing over 2,000 animals from roughly 200 different species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. The grounds feature separate sections designed to provide appropriate living conditions for each group of animals.

The facility was founded in 1937 and has grown from a small animal park into a modern institution. Today it participates in international breeding programs aimed at supporting threatened species.

The zoo is open daily throughout most of the year and welcomes visitors on nearly every day. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the grounds on foot covers significant distances.

A special section is the Danube Aquarium, featuring large tanks that display fish species native to the Danube River. This exhibition offers a window into the underwater world of a major European river.
