Sankt-Stephanus-Kirche

Sankt-Stephanus-Kirche is a church building in the Westerhüsen district featuring an octagonal baroque tower with an onion-shaped dome and arched sound openings. The structure shows features from different periods, from its early foundations through to its baroque redesign.

The building dates back to the late 8th century, originally constructed in wood and later replaced with stone construction in the early 13th century. This development shows how the structure adapted over centuries, eventually gaining the baroque features visible today.

Inside the tower stands a 15th-century sandstone relief showing the Crucifixion with several saints, including Saint Stephen and a kneeling donor figure. This artwork shows how important this place was for the community's religious life.

The church currently serves as a summer church for the Sankt Stephanus congregation, with services held in a converted parish hall. Visitors should keep in mind this is an active place of worship, so access is best arranged during regular opening hours.

The Christ King Bell from 1523 remains one of the most notable pieces of the church's furnishings. The building also houses historic communion chalices and a baptismal bowl that testify to generations of worship use.
