Pähler Schlucht, Chine and waterfall in Pähl, Germany
The Pähler Schlucht is a gorge with a waterfall in Pähl, Upper Bavaria. The formation extends roughly 1000 meters along the Burgleitenbach stream and creates a chasm about 100 meters wide with a 16 meter tall waterfall flowing over tufa stone.
The gorge became a protected nature reserve in 1983, securing its geological and ecological value. This designation has safeguarded the site's natural formations from development.
The gorge sits within the Pfaffenwinkel region of Upper Bavaria, an area characterized by its diverse landscapes and natural formations.
The site has been closed to the public since 2024 due to landslides and falling rocks that make the paths unsafe. The municipality has permanently shut all public routes to protect visitors from hazards.
Behind the main waterfall, water flowed over a tufa stone edge creating a hidden passage where visitors could once walk through. This sheltered spot offered a memorable experience that few noticed before the closure.
