Unteres Schloss, Castle in Pähl, Germany

The Unteres Schloss is a castle in Pähl, Bavaria, featuring a rectangular three-story structure set within a two-hectare park. The building displays decorative stucco moldings and carved balusters throughout its interior staircase.

Kaspar von Berndorf acquired the property in 1531 from Urban Aresinger and had the castle built during the mid-1500s. This construction took place during the late Renaissance period and reflected the architectural trends of that era.

The castle now houses gallery owners who regularly organize art exhibitions within its historical rooms. These exhibitions bring contemporary artistic expression into spaces that have retained their Renaissance character and design.

The monument holds protected status as a registered architectural landmark and remains open for organized exhibitions throughout the year. Visitors should check ahead about specific exhibition schedules before planning a visit.

A preserved sketch from 1560 provides direct visual documentation of how the castle looked during the Renaissance period. This drawing offers a rare glimpse into its original design and the principles that guided its construction.
