Hochschloss Pähl is a villa in a romanticised castle style built from 1883 to 1885 to plans by architect Albert Schmidt on the site of older predecessor buildings, about 100 metres above the Ammer valley and Ammersee. Pale yellow walls with ornate light stonework around the windows and corners carry grey slate roofs; a tall square tower with a steep dark pyramidal roof, corner pinnacles and rows of arched windows near its top stands on the left, with a smaller round turret with a conical roof beside it. To the right a gabled section has red-roofed dormers and rectangular windows, and a metal finial tops the gable.

The present villa in romantic castle style was built from 1883 to 1885 to plans by architect Albert Schmidt on the site of older predecessors. In the 12th and 13th centuries the castle belonged to the Counts of Andechs; after Otto VIII died in 1248 it passed to the Wittelsbachs, who set up a district court and administrative office. In 1618 Maximilian I ceded it to Carl Eglof as an allodial noble seat with lower jurisdiction. Swedish troops plundered and burned it during the Thirty Years' War.

The name Hochschloss distinguishes the upper house from Pähl's other seats; the village's noble line is not called Pähl. From 1466 to 1483 the poet and judge Hans Heseloher, called a late minnesinger, held the office of Landrichter based here, composing songs alongside his duties.

The villa is privately owned and not open to the public, so visits are limited to viewing the pale yellow walls, grey slate roofs and tall square tower from outside. It stands about 100 metres above the Ammer valley and Ammersee, on the site of earlier buildings. The grounds are private; paths and access points are not described in the sources.

The site lies about 100 metres above the Ammer valley and the Ammersee, which explains its name Hochschloss. Below the present villa, the Bavarian state register lists a medieval and early modern castle site (Burgstall), so the hill was fortified long before 1883.
