Haus Stockum, Archaeological heritage castle in Werne, Germany
The archaeological site contains remnants of two neighboring castle complexes positioned on opposite sides of the Lippe River in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The estate dates back to 858 when King Ludwig II granted substantial property rights in Stockheim to the abbess of Herford Monastery.
The castle complex included Saint John's Chapel, established in 1381, which served as a central place of worship for the Stockum parish community.
Visitors can reach the castle remains by turning south from the Gersteinwerk power plant in Sandbochum, though access to the grounds requires careful navigation.
The archaeological significance of both castle sites stems from their preserved underground structures, offering potential insights through future excavation projects.
