Haus Weitmar, Manor house in Weitmar district, Bochum, Germany
The foundation walls and remaining structures of Haus Weitmar display architectural elements from different construction periods spanning several centuries.
Originally established as a farmstead during the Carolingian period, the site transformed into an upper court around 1000 and received fortifications with a moat in the 12th century.
The estate includes remnants of the St Silvester chapel, which contains Gothic architectural elements and a square west tower with Romanesque characteristics.
The public can access the ruins and surrounding park, which now functions as an outdoor gallery featuring numerous sculptures from different artists.
An underground museum extension, Situation Kunst, opened in 2015 within the remaining structures to host contemporary art exhibitions.
