Schaumburger Hof, Timber-framed restaurant in Plittersdorf, Bad Godesberg, Germany.
The Schaumburger Hof is a timber-framed building on the Rhine bank in Plittersdorf, displaying traditional 18th-century construction methods and materials. It features a beer garden with around 350 seats under linden trees, offering views of the river.
Peter Joseph Rhein founded a tavern in 1755 beside a towpath and built horse stalls for animals that pulled freight boats upstream. The place quickly became an important stopping point for travelers and boatmen along the Rhine.
The establishment served as a meeting place for political discussions when members of the Parliamentary Council gathered here in 1948. These gatherings shaped debates about the foundations of the new Federal Republic.
The location is easily accessible with plenty of space for visitors both indoors and in the beer garden. It is best reached on foot from Bad Godesberg by following the riverbank.
Before an electric ferry was introduced in 1907, the building served as a landing point connecting Plittersdorf with the opposite bank at Niederdollendorf. This role as a key crossing point shaped the character of the place for generations of river users.
