Haus des Berliner Verlages, Office building in Berlin-Mitte, Germany
Haus des Berliner Verlages is a high-rise office building constructed with reinforced concrete, steel, and glass in the Neues Bauen style. The 17-story structure features functional, linear facades characteristic of modern architecture from that period.
The building was completed in 1973 during the peak of East German modernist architecture. It served as the headquarters of the Berlin publishing company and became a landmark example of contemporary construction methods.
The building served as a gathering place for journalists and correspondents who exchanged publications from around the world. This role made it an important hub for information flow during the East German period.
Access to the building exterior is available from the street, though interior tours are not always available. The best time to visit the outside is during daylight hours when the architecture is most visible.
A 76-meter-long frieze titled 'Die Presse als Organisator' by Willi Neubert decorates the facade. This artwork was fully restored and returned to its original appearance in 2021.
