Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden

The Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden is a five-star hotel in the Bavarian Alps at around 1000 meters (3280 feet) elevation, with 138 rooms and large windows overlooking the mountains. Rooms are furnished in a modern style and spread across several floors, all accessible by elevator.

Architect Herbert Kochta designed this building, which opened in 2005 and combined modern forms with the Alpine surroundings. The opening brought a new style of mountain accommodation to the area, pairing comfort with views of the Berchtesgaden landscape.

Chefs at the hotel blend Alpine recipes with international cooking, sourcing ingredients from farms across the Berchtesgaden countryside. Menus change with the seasons, showing how local residents bring mountain produce into everyday meals.

A mountain road leads up from Berchtesgaden town to the hotel, cleared in winter and passable even when snow falls. The reception desk provides tips on hiking trails and opening times for the pool areas and saunas, which guests can use freely.

Therapists in the spa use herbs and oils gathered from nearby Alpine meadows in some treatments. These plants bring the scent of mountain flora into the treatment rooms and connect wellness sessions with the nature outside.
