Kehlstein, Mountain summit in Berchtesgaden Alps, Germany.
Kehlstein is a mountain summit in the Berchtesgaden Alps standing at 1,881 meters and a subpeak of the Göll massif. Its location on the border between Germany and Austria provides sweeping views into both countries.
A building was constructed on the summit in 1938 to serve as a meeting place for government representatives. After the war, the structure was preserved and later opened to tourists.
The summit connects landscapes on both sides of the border, offering views that reveal this region as a meeting point between Bavaria and Austria. Visitors come here to see both territories at once and experience the geography that defines this cross-border area.
A specialized mountain road with tunnels leads to the summit and operates with bus service during the warmer months. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are important because weather here changes quickly.
An elevator is carved directly through the rock of the summit, rising more than 120 meters inside the mountain itself. This hidden engineering feat shows an impressive technical achievement from that era.
