Kunstsammlungen der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, University art collection in Bochum, Germany.
The Kunstsammlungen der Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an art collection housed beneath the university library, positioned opposite the Audimax building. It contains more than 1,000 artworks in its spaces.
The collection was founded in 1975 and later enriched by a substantial gift from art critic Albert Schulze-Vellinghausen, which included abstract and concrete artworks. These origins continue to shape the focus of the institution today.
The collection displays modern works reflecting American and European art movements, alongside ancient objects from Greece, Rome, and Persia. Visitors can see how these different periods and regions are presented side by side.
The collection is located underground and is open to visitors from Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free and the location is centrally positioned on the university campus.
A section called Museum unter Tage uses the underground spaces to present exhibitions exploring different worldviews. This unusual spatial setting creates a distinctive experience for visitors.
