The Staatstheater Cottbus is an opera house and theater building in Cottbus. The venue presents plays, operas, operettas, musicals, orchestral concerts, and ballet performances under one roof with its own artistic ensemble.
The theater opened on October 1, 1908, after a 16-month construction period. The building was made possible by Cottbus's prosperous textile industry community, which was economically thriving at that time.
The building displays Art Nouveau features with elaborate decorations, paintings, and sculptures designed by Berlin architect Bernhard Sehring. Visitors can admire the crafted details and artistic ornaments that characterize both the interior and exterior.
The venue is centrally located in the city and easily accessible on foot from the town center. The interior is accessible, and the hall offers good views and acoustics for all performances.
The theater is the only state theater in Brandenburg and offers all genres of performing arts under one roof. This concentration allows visitors to experience different artistic forms within a single institution.
