Luthergarten Wittenberg, Memorial park in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany.
Luthergarten is a memorial park set along the former city ramparts of Lutherstadt Wittenberg with around 500 trees. Each tree represents a Christian community worldwide and carries information about its planting year and sponsoring organization.
The park opened in 2009 as part of a project by the Lutheran World Federation. The initiative created a commemoration site ahead of the Reformation anniversary in 2017.
The garden came to life through international planting ceremonies where sponsors from different countries blessed their trees with soil and water. These ceremonies connected people from various Christian traditions at a single location.
The park follows the old city fortifications and can be explored on foot with signage helping with orientation. The best time to visit is during the growing season when the trees are in full foliage.
The garden holds about 35 different tree species from various continents, and some have partner trees planted at churches worldwide. This global connection makes each tree part of a larger network of Christian communities.
