Martin Luther Church

Martin Luther Church is a neo-Gothic religious building in central Detmold with three aisles supported by twelve pillars and cross-ribbed vaults. The interior features sandstone and wood elements that create the overall character of the space.

Construction took place between 1896 and 1898, replacing an earlier baroque structure that once stood on the site. The previous building had served as a meeting place for the Lippe Parliament during the revolutionary events of 1848.

The church serves as a gathering place for worship and hosts choirs that perform during religious services and community events. The rhythm of congregational life shapes how the space is used throughout the year.

The church is accessible during weekday daylight hours, and regular services take place on Sundays. It helps to check in advance if special events might affect general access.

The pulpit features elaborate wooden carvings crafted by Ludwig Beneke showing Christ and the four evangelists in fine detail. These carved elements demonstrate the skilled craftsmanship invested in the church's religious artwork.
