The Oberschloss sits on a hilltop above Kranichfeld, featuring thick defensive walls and a 22-meter-high tower called Dicke Turm.
Built in the 12th century as a Romanesque fortress, the castle underwent expansion in 1453 and partial reconstruction after a fire in 1934.
The castle functions as a cultural center with regular concerts, theater performances, and exhibitions displaying historical documents and artifacts.
The castle opens Tuesday through Sunday from March to October, with winter hours from November to March and admission fees starting at 3 euros.
The castle features a distinct stone figure called Leckarsch on its southwestern corner, which generates multiple origin stories among local residents.
