Platte, Mountain summit in Steinwald Forest, Germany.
Platte is the highest point in the Steinwald section at 946 meters elevation, forming the landscape of the Fichtel Mountains. An observation tower with a viewing platform stands at the summit, accessible via hiking trails from nearby lodges.
The current observation tower was built in 2000, replacing the original 1972 structure that was removed in the late 1990s. The location has served as a viewpoint for many decades within the region.
The summit attracts hikers from surrounding areas who gather to explore the forest paths together. The location shapes how local people spend their leisure time through its accessible routes and meeting points.
Several marked trails lead to the summit with clear signage throughout the route. Comfortable hiking shoes are recommended, and the observation tower is easily accessible for most visitors.
The viewing platform sits at about 30 meters (100 feet) above ground level and is reached by climbing approximately 150 steps. From this height, visitors gain an expansive view over the surrounding Bavarian landscape.
