Reichenauer Hof, Medieval cultural monument in Ulm, Germany
Reichenauer Hof is a building in Ulm combining Gothic elements with a Renaissance courtyard surrounded by arcades. It stretches along the Danube with a layout that blends structures from different medieval and Renaissance periods.
The building started as a settlement for Reichenau Monastery before Mayor Ludwig Krafft transformed it into a manor house in 1370. This change marked a shift from religious to civil use in the city.
The Minnesängersaal displays wall paintings from the late 1300s showing medieval scenes of people celebrating and making music. The frescoes give a sense of how Ulm's citizens spent their time back then.
The building now serves as the State Construction Office and underwent major renovation in the late 1980s. Visitors should know that it functions as an administrative office with limited public access to certain areas.
Emperor Charles V stayed here several times between 1543 and 1552, giving the place special importance. These visits from one of Europe's most powerful rulers left a mark on the building's standing.
