Rheinbrücke Neuenburg–Chalampé, International road bridge in Baden-Württemberg, Germany
The Rheinbrücke Neuenburg-Chalampé is a road bridge that spans the Rhine River and Rhine Side Canal, linking the German town of Neuenburg to the French municipality of Chalampé. It carries both the B378 federal road and the railway line between Müllheim and Mulhouse.
The first railway bridge at this location was built between 1875 and 1878 following a state treaty between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the German Empire. The structure has undergone several modifications and modernizations since its original construction.
The bridge connects two distinct regions and serves as a crossing point between German and French communities living on opposite sides of the river. For walkers and cyclists, it creates a direct link between the landscapes of the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains.
The bridge is accessible to pedestrians and cyclists with adequate space for both forms of traffic. The wide pathways on the structure provide comfortable passage for walkers and riders crossing between the two countries.
In 2022 the pedestrian and cycling paths were doubled in width through funding shared between Baden-Württemberg and the European Collectivity of Alsace. This project made the crossing significantly more appealing for non-motorized travelers.
