Rickelsbüller Koog, Protected area at Rodenäs, Germany.
The Rickelsbüller Koog spans 534 hectares along the German-Danish border, featuring marshlands, freshwater habitats, and extensive bird watching areas.
The area was established in 1981 through a collaborative Danish-German project, following the submersion of Rickelsbüll village in the 1615 North Sea flood.
The reserve maintains bilingual information displays in German and Danish, reflecting the strong cross-border connections of this northernmost German mainland point.
Visitors can access the observation hut near the entrance, offering clear views of the Rickelsbüller Koogsee and its resident water birds.
The access road crosses between German and Danish territories multiple times, requiring visitors from both countries to cross national borders to reach specific viewing points.
