Schloss Stammheim

Schloss Stammheim is a three-story Renaissance water castle featuring a gabled roof, central entrance portal, and round stair tower at its rear. The building displays classical proportions typical of its period, with Baroque garden grounds that complement the overall design.

Construction began in 1587 under Dietrich von Rosenbach and replaced an earlier water fortress on the site. The new castle was completed in 1592 as a modernized version of the older defensive structure.

The two coats of arms displayed above the entrance represent the noble families of Diez Rosenbach and Walburgis von Karsbach who shaped the castle's history. These emblems serve as a reminder of the families who once called this place home.

The castle is located in the small community of Stammheim and is most easily reached by car or on foot from the village center. Check ahead about special events like weddings, as these occasions may limit visitor access or require advance notice.

The basement level preserves original loopholes from the earlier water fortress that once stood on this site. These openings provide a glimpse into how the previous defensive structure functioned before being replaced by the Renaissance castle.
