Lindheim Castle, Medieval castle in Altenstadt, Germany
Lindheim Castle is a ruined fortress in Altenstadt whose remains display different construction phases. The structure contains stones from the original medieval stronghold alongside later architectural additions.
The castle first appeared in historical records in 930 when it belonged to the lords of Münzenberg. A major reconstruction took place in 1289 under Conrad von Büches.
The name Lindheim references the linden tree, a symbol with deep roots in the area's past. Visitors can see this connection reflected in the remaining structures and how the location sits within the local landscape.
The ruins sit along Dudelsheimer Strabe and require about 30 minutes to explore fully. Direct access is available and the proximity to Keltenwelt am Glauberg makes it possible to visit both locations in a single trip.
A fire in 1928 destroyed the main building that Christian Ludwig von Oeynhausen had constructed using stones salvaged from the decaying medieval fortress. This event marked the end of an era of reuse and restoration.
