History
The castle was built around 1200 as a defensive fortification against Bohemia and first appeared in records in 1318. Its transformation from a military fortress into a residential palace took place gradually over many generations.

The von Bünau family transformed the fortress into a residential palace during the 16th century, adding Renaissance details such as the main portal. Visitors can see today how these decorated rooms reflect that shift from a military stronghold to a family home.
