Ruine Leckstein

Ruine Leckstein is a medieval castle located in Gauselfingen that sits on a western slope at 785 meters in elevation and features remnants of a residential tower along with defensive structures. The original complex still shows surviving wall sections and fortification ditches that reveal how the place was built and used.

The castle was built during the second half of the 12th century and served as an important seat of local power in the area for a long time. Pottery finds and other artifacts confirm its use and show that the complex was inhabited and used over several centuries.

Excavations have uncovered a remarkable variety of objects from daily life, including iron bolt tips, knife blades, glass pieces, bronze items, and even ivory objects. These finds provide a rare glimpse into the material culture of the residents and show that people of high status with good trade connections lived here.
