Schloss Planitz

Schloss Planitz is a castle in Niederplanitz featuring baroque architecture with classical Greek pediments supported by pilasters across the inner courtyard facades. The structure sits within a large surrounding park containing different garden sections and currently serves as a school building.

The castle was founded in the 12th century and underwent several reconstructions before a major renovation in 1712 for Johann Georg von Arnim. This renovation established its current appearance and made it a residence for the Arnim family.

The park reflects romantic ideals of nature that were popular among the nobility in the 1800s, with winding paths and mature trees creating a vision of private beauty. Visitors can still sense how the grounds were meant to be a personal retreat for the estate's owners.

The building now serves as a school and can be viewed from the exterior, while the park grounds are partly accessible to visitors. It works best to explore the outer park and garden areas first, then walk around the castle from the outside.

Hidden within the park is a Chinese tea pavilion from the 18th century, a remnant of Europe's fascination with Far Eastern exoticism. This small structure shows how noble estates displayed their appreciation for Asian artistic forms.
