Château de Sandhorst, Manor house in Aurich, Germany.

Castillo de Sandhorst is a stone manor house in Aurich built on the foundations of a former southern wing, displaying traditional East Frisian architectural features. The building is surrounded by a garden landscape that defines the grounds.

Count Ulrich II built this pleasure palace between 1647 and 1648 for his wife Juliane von Hessen-Darmstadt during the period of the Thirty Years' War. The structure emerged as an expression of aristocratic power during a turbulent historical time.

The chapel on the grounds once housed an organ built by Jost Sieburg, reflecting the religious and musical traditions valued by the local nobility. Visitors can observe how such artistic works shaped the cultural life of the East Frisian aristocracy.

The property now serves as a guest house for the Enercon company, having undergone extensive renovation in 1976 to preserve its structure. Visitors should take time to explore the surrounding garden landscape to fully appreciate the building and its setting.

Prince Georg Albrecht, the second-to-last local ruler, spent his final moments in this palace in 1734, despite the court having preferred other locations. This unexpected event made the property symbolically important in regional history.
