Zoo Stralsund, Zoological garden in Stralsund, Germany.
Zoo Stralsund is an animal facility spanning approximately 16 hectares that houses around 1500 animals from about 200 species. The grounds feature both familiar farm animals and exotic species from various regions worldwide.
The facility was established in 1928 when Frido Schmidt founded the Tiergartenverein Stralsund and initially kept deer and elk in the Küterbastion. From this early private collection, the larger institution developed over time.
The zoo maintains traditional Pomeranian livestock breeds like Pomeranian Sheep and White Donkeys, which are rarely seen today. These animals show visitors how farmers in the region once worked and lived.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, and feed is available at various points for interacting with goats, horses, and llamas. The Delikater bistro within the zoo provides meals and drinks during your visit.
Historic buildings on the grounds include an old farmhouse, a garden, and the Neue Mahnkesche windmill, adding cultural depth to the experience. These structures from earlier periods give the zoo a distinctive character.
