Österreichpark, Riverside park in Charlottenburg, Berlin, Germany
Österreichpark is a green space along the northern bank of the Spree near Charlottenburg, featuring walking paths and open grass areas. It stretches about 200 meters along the river and includes several seating areas throughout the space.
The site was previously called Sömmeringanlage, named after an 18th-century scientist. It was redesigned in 2013 and renamed Österreichpark to mark a connection between Berlin and Austria.
The park features contributions from nine Austrian federal states, each represented through different plants and regional details. Visitors can discover how various Austrian landscapes come together as they walk through the space.
The park is easy to reach along the riverside paths and works well for a relaxing walk. Several benches and telescope installations are available to visitors throughout the year.
An alpine rock garden displays mountain plants alongside Kärnten granite, creating a miniature landscape of the Austrian Alps. This is a surprisingly detailed representation of mountainous regions that you rarely encounter in this form elsewhere in Berlin.
