Brecht-Weigel-Haus, Literary museum in Buckow, Germany.
The Brecht-Weigel-Haus is a summer residence in Buckow that features a five-meter (16 feet) high studio with large windows overlooking the garden. The rooms contain German furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Built in 1911 by sculptor Georg Roch, the house later became the summer home of playwright Bertolt Brecht and actress Helene Weigel. It opened to the public as a museum in 1977.
The house displays photographs, manuscripts, and personal belongings of both residents throughout its rooms. Visitors can see how the two artists lived and worked here.
The house is easy to access and offers regular readings, workshops, and discussions about theater and literature throughout the year. Visitors should allow time to explore the exhibition rooms and garden.
In summer 1953, Bertolt Brecht wrote The Buckower Elegies in this house as a response to the workers uprising in the German Democratic Republic. These poems were created during a time of great political tension.
