Erbeskopf tower, Wooden observation tower in Hilscheid, Germany.
The Erbeskopf tower is a wooden observation structure situated at 816 meters elevation in the Hunsrück region. It features three viewing platforms that extend above the surrounding landscape, allowing visitors to see across the hills and valleys below.
An earlier observation tower from 1901 was demolished in 1961, leading to the construction of this wooden structure in 1971. The original building stood within a military restricted zone that was later opened to the public.
This tower sits within the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and serves as a hub for people exploring regional hiking routes throughout the surrounding landscape. Visitors come here to take in the views and connect with the natural surroundings.
The wooden structure is accessible 24 hours a day, offering views from multiple levels throughout your visit. Keep in mind that the stairs are steep and there is no wheelchair access to the upper platforms.
A Windklang sculpture added in 2011 near the tower produces sounds from the wind, creating an artistic element within the landscape. This sound installation complements the visual experience of the site in an unexpected way.
