Bei der Silberpappel

The protected area spans 8.6 hectares along the Rhine River's right bank, featuring floodplain forests with silver poplars and black poplars.

The reserve received its name from a 250-year-old silver poplar tree that was struck by lightning and had to be cut down in 1936.

The area forms part of the Waldpark complex, contributing to the environmental education initiatives and natural heritage of the Mannheim region.

While the reserve itself restricts public access, visitors can observe the protected ecosystem from designated paths in the surrounding Waldpark.

The site contains a restored ancient Rhine arm called Hagbau, which runs parallel to the river and supports populations of kingfishers and water bats.
