Buchenbachtal, Protected natural area in Affalterbach and Burgstetten, Germany
Buchenbachtal is a protected natural area that follows the Buchenbach stream across about 120 hectares of land. Dense forests and diverse plant and animal species define the landscape throughout the valley.
The area received protection in October 1989 to preserve the natural beech forest landscape. This designation marked an important effort to safeguard the local ecosystem.
Four stone arch bridges cross the valley, showing traditional craftsmanship from agricultural times and how people once moved through the landscape. These structures remain visible reminders of working life in the area.
Walking paths start at the Steinächle parking area and follow the stream through the valley. The routes offer straightforward access, and sturdy footwear is recommended for the trails.
A railway bridge crossing the valley was rebuilt in 2020 using a massive crawler crane weighing about 100 tons. This engineering feat transformed the site temporarily while keeping rail traffic connected.
