The Harzmuseum displays natural history exhibits focusing on the Harz mountains, including minerals, fossils, and geological formations of the region.
Founded in 1897 as the Fürst-Otto-Museum, the institution moved to its current location in a traditional timber-framed building at Klint 10 in 1955.
The museum contains 600 paintings and over 1,600 artworks from regional artists, depicting the landscapes and life in the Harz mountains.
The museum opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with admission at 4 euros for adults.
The ground floor houses the specialized Harz Library, which maintains an extensive collection of literature about the regional history and geography.
