Café Wien

Café Wien is a timber-framed structure with exposed wooden beams and vertical posts characteristic of medieval German construction methods, rising across two floors. The building contains interior seating areas and outdoor tables, serving a traditional menu that includes vegetarian choices.

The building was constructed in 1583 and ranks among Wernigerode's oldest structures, operating continuously as a café through centuries. Its timber-frame design from that era has survived intact, forming part of the town's architectural heritage.

The café serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors share coffee and regional pastries in a traditional German setting. The space reflects customs that have shaped social life in Wernigerode for generations.

The café sits near Wernigerode Castle and is easily reachable on foot from the town center. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available, and visitors can stop by without advance planning.
