Hietzig well, Heritage water well at Neues Rathaus, Dresden, Germany.

The Hietzig well is a water fountain featuring bronze sculptural work standing in front of the New Town Hall in central Dresden. It combines practical water access with artistic elements that integrate into the surrounding architecture.

Sculptor Georg Wrba created this well between 1921 and 1922 as part of Dresden's urban renewal during the Weimar Republic era. It emerged during a time when the city was modernizing public infrastructure and installing artworks in shared spaces.

The well displays motifs connected to local craftsmanship and shows how fountains became part of Dresden's public spaces in that era. This design reflects how residents wanted to shape and use their city in the early 20th century.

The well stands in the plaza area in front of the New Town Hall and is easily reached on foot from Dresden's historic center. The area is well signposted and the well is visible from several street approaches.

The well preserves a traditional handcrafted water supply method that is rarely used functionally today, while the bronze sculptures show Wrba's skill at blending everyday utility with artistic execution. This combination of practical function and artistic ambition makes it a rare example of its period.
