Spinnerei, Industrial heritage monument in Bayreuth, Germany
Spinnerei is an industrial monument in Bayreuth featuring a five-story factory building from the 19th century with a preserved water tower. The site includes multiple structures that display the typical architecture of a cotton spinning mill from that period.
Founded in 1889 by Carl Schüller and Otto Rose, the mill became one of Bayreuth's largest employers with around 1,600 workers. The facility's expansion reflected the rise of textile manufacturing in the region during industrialization.
The factory shaped how the Hammerstatt district grew, with worker housing forming the foundation of a new neighborhood. This area still shows traces of those times and how the mill influenced local community life.
The C-Building has been transformed into a retail, health, and service center with various medical practices and business facilities. The location functions as a modern multipurpose building that is easy to access for visitors and users.
During renovation, workers decontaminated 80,000 tons of soil and recovered 5 tons of tar oil from the grounds. This intensive cleanup was necessary to prepare the site for new uses.
