Schloss Dennenlohe, Baroque château in Unterschwaningen, Germany.

Schloss Dennenlohe is a baroque residence set within a large park in Bavaria containing over 10,000 rhododendron plants alongside numerous botanical collections. The property features structured gardens, an arboretum, and herb sections laid out in organized, clearly defined areas.

The château was built in 1734 as a noble residence and gradually transformed into a botanical and tourist destination over the centuries. This evolution shows how a private estate became a publicly accessible site with educational and scientific focus.

The name comes from old German words referring to the valley setting. Today visitors can observe how the grounds serve as a living laboratory where gardeners maintain plant collections that draw both amateur enthusiasts and researchers.

The property is open on weekdays from mid-October through late April, with weekend visits requiring advance arrangement. Well-maintained pathways run through the gardens, though the terrain is hilly and sturdy footwear helps on some sections.

The property holds southern Germany's largest rhododendron collection with roughly 10,000 specimens in various cultivars and shades. In May and June the flowering display transforms the entire area into a spectacular show of color.
