Nonnenbach Nottulner Berg, Nature reserve in Nottuln, Germany
Nonnenbach Nottulner Berg is a protected natural area located northwest of Nottuln, covering approximately 85 hectares across both sides of road B 525. The reserve contains beech forests, open meadows, and the Nonnenbach stream, which winds through the landscape on clay and marl soils.
This area received protected status in 2007 to preserve the natural beech forests and stream ecosystems of the region. The designation came at a time when similar habitats across Westphalia faced increasing pressure and required formal conservation measures.
The reserve functions as an educational site where residents participate in programs about environmental protection and natural habitat preservation.
Walkers and cyclists can explore the area on marked paths that provide access to the various landscape types throughout the reserve. Local tourism offices and digital platforms offer route information and current conditions to help plan your visit.
The Nonnenbach stream disappears underground in several places, only to resurface elsewhere before finally emerging near Ludgeruspättken. This underground behavior is caused by the clay and marl geology and makes the stream a remarkable hydrological feature of the area.
