Auto und Motorrad-Museum Pleidelsheim, Automobile museum in Pleidelsheim, Germany
The Auto and Motorrad-Museum Pleidelsheim occupies four levels within a wooden former tobacco drying shed, displaying vintage motorcycles and automobiles across about 860 square meters (9,260 square feet). The collection included around 180 motorcycles, 40 mopeds, 35 bicycles, 15 cars, and 25 engines that together told the story of transportation development.
The museum opened in 1993 under collector Manfred Wirth's direction, transforming a 1933 tobacco drying facility into a transportation museum. It operated for nearly 30 years before closing in 2022, chronicling how vehicles evolved during that period.
The exhibition features motorcycles from German makers like BMW and Adler alongside international brands, showing how motorcycle design and engineering changed over many decades.
Visiting this space requires climbing multiple flights of stairs since the collection spans four levels throughout the building. Wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to walk through all the displays and examine the vehicles in detail.
The collection featured specialized racing exhibits including the Deubel-Hörner World Champion sidecar and the Peter-Öttl motorcycle with an 80 cc engine. These rare vehicles displayed the pinnacle of motorcycle racing achievement.
