Nonnenhof

The Nonnenhof is a medieval building in Meiningen with round-arched gates that open onto an inner courtyard. The first floor contains wooden parlors decorated with intricate carvings, and the entire structure shows architectural features from several centuries.

The building was founded in 1239 as a Franciscan monastery on the edge of the Rhon mountains. Over the centuries, various renovations transformed its structure into the form it has today.

The wooden parlors display handcrafted details from the Gothic period that reflect medieval building traditions. Visitors can observe the original carvings and paintings on the walls and understand how affluent residents once used these spaces.

The building is located at Nonnenplan 3, making it easy to find using navigation tools. Visitors can access the courtyard from the street and explore both the exterior and parts of the interior.

The building still contains original medieval toilet facilities called Drucke, revealing how sophisticated sanitation was designed back then. These installations show that such facilities were available to affluent citizens and travelers of that era.
