Næstved

Næstved is a commercial center located on the banks of the Suså River in South Zealand, featuring five Danish National Churches that shape its urban landscape. The city spans multiple shopping districts, including Næstved Stor Center with approximately 80 shops and Næstved Mega Center, where residents and visitors shop regularly.

Benedictine monks established Saint Peter's Priory in 1135, transforming the settlement into a significant trading hub. By 1426, the town had become an established market center for South Zealand and continued to develop as a regional trade junction over the centuries.

The Grønnegades Kaserne Kulturcenter hosts performances by Danish and international artists, while local museums display collections of pottery and glasswork created by regional craftspeople. These spaces reflect the city's long tradition of artistic and craft production.

The city offers visitors easy navigation with its three main shopping areas within walking distance, where weekly markets are held regularly. The city center is pleasant for strolling and exploring, with street cafes and shops that invite lingering.

Herlufsholm School was founded in 1565 and incorporates a chapel dating from the 12th century, older than the school itself. The school community follows a model similar to English boarding schools and pioneered accepting female students in 1985.
