Alssund Bridge

The Alssund Bridge extends 662 meters across the Alssund strait, featuring a main span of 150 meters and a width of 17 meters.

The construction of the bridge began in 1978 and concluded in 1981, with Queen Ingrid presiding over the official opening ceremony on October 19.

The bridge connects the two sections of Sønderborg, integrating communities on both sides of the strait into a single municipal entity.

The structure carries Highway 8 traffic between the island of Als and mainland Jutland, serving as the primary transportation connection in the region.

The girder bridge design incorporates engineering elements that allow it to withstand the specific weather conditions of the Little Belt waters.
