Sandbjerg, Manor house in Sønderborg, Denmark
Sandbjerg is a manor house in Rococo style near Als Sound in Sønderborg, with two stories, a high hipped roof, and decorative pilasters on its facade. The building sits on spacious grounds that extend toward the water.
The manor was built in 1788 by Conrad Georg Reventlow and stayed in family hands until it was sold in 1929 to lawyer Knud Dahl and his wife. In the decades that followed, the property underwent major changes in how it was used and its purpose.
The estate attracted notable Danish writers during the late 1700s who visited and shaped the intellectual character of this place. It became a gathering spot for artists and thinkers of that era.
The grounds work today as a conference venue and can host different group sizes, with various rooms and facilities for events. The setting offers quiet conditions for working and meeting in a historic setting.
The wife of the later owner was sister to famous author Karen Blixen and donated the estate in 1954 to Aarhus University. This turned the private home into an academic research center.
