Frederiksberg Palace

Frederiksberg Palace, Baroque palace in Frederiksberg Municipality, Denmark

Frederiksberg Palace is a three-story baroque residence with an H-shaped layout, where symmetrical wings frame a central courtyard and face expansive gardens. Its architectural design features characteristics typical of Italian baroque style, visible in the proportions and decorative elements throughout the structure.

King Frederick IV began construction in 1699 as a summer residence, followed by major expansions between 1733 and 1738. These building campaigns shaped the structure into its current form.

The chapel in the east wing, built around 1710, blends baroque style with Danish building traditions. Visitors can still see the original wood carvings and decorative details that reveal what people valued in religious spaces back then.

The Royal Danish Military Academy occupies the building and offers guided tours to visitors. These tours focus on the architectural design and historical development of the palace.

Russian Czar Peter the Great visited in 1716, marking an important diplomatic meeting between the Danish and Russian courts. This royal visit remains part of the site's remembered past.
