Dueholm Priory, Medieval priory museum in Nykøbing, Denmark
Dueholm Priory is a museum housed in a preserved medieval building in Nykøbing featuring traditional Danish architecture with distinctive stone walls. The west wing contains the main exhibition spaces where visitors explore historical collections.
The priory was founded in 1370 under Bishop Sven of Børglum and served as a monastery for the Knights of Malta for nearly 2 centuries. It closed in 1556 when religious institutions across Denmark were dissolved.
The exhibits include Viking Age artifacts and objects that show how daily life developed on Mors island across different periods. Visitors can observe how craftsmanship and ways of living changed over the centuries.
Guided tours are available through Museum Mors at Dueholmgade 7 in Nykøbing, located in northern Mors island. Check opening times before visiting since they vary by season and day.
The site preserves two original letter books with medieval correspondence that reveal how the monastery ran its daily affairs. These handwritten documents are rare examples of administrative records from a medieval religious community.
